Honorable Mention S.L Wallace!

Dear Readers,

I am so very proud to present to you, S.L. Wallace, a talented author of many books. And yes, if you think her name sounds familiar then you would be correct.

S.L. Wallace is an upper elementary Montessori teacher and life long writer who is a descendant of the famous William Wallace. Like him, she believes in freedom and independence. Unlike him, she fights her battles with the pen. S.L. has a quirky family and prefers quirky friends. If you see her out and about, she is likely looking for some fun.

That’s just way too cool!!!

I wanted to mention her books and here’s a blurb from one of my favorites;  Canvas Skies from the Reliance on Citizens trilogy ….”Aimee has left her baby in a realm across the sea and has returned to Tkaron full of fear, trepidation and…hope. She will rely on Keira and Guy, but who else can be trusted? Aimee is about to find out in Canvas Skies, the second in the Reliance on Citizens trilogy.” You can find this book today for  $2.99 everywhere ebooks are sold.

Here’s a brief synopsis;

Greed. Power. Class division. Resistance.

The Terenian government has worked hard to divide the haves from the have-nots. Guy Bensen, Elite bachelor of the year, wants a better life for everyone. Thief/hired killer, Keira Maddock, hungers for equality. Together, they might be able to change society.

Meanwhile, due to tragic events caused by the Divide, Keira’s younger sister, April, has left her baby in the realm across the sea. Now she returns to Terene. With the arrival of two very different men, her life becomes complicated. In order to be safe, April must hide her identity. In order to live, she must open her heart.

In book two of the Reliance on Citizens trilogy, S.L. Wallace delves deeper into political intrigue as we examine the bonds that make us human, blending the genres of action, sci-fi, romance and political suspense.

The Day We Have All Been Waiting For!!!

Dear Readers,

It’s been ten months since I embarked on my publication adventure and I am stunned by where I am today. Aug 23, 2013 one of my dreams will come true. Here I am, a mother of four, teacher, and small town gal, and I am published!! I can still recall when I started this blog announcing that I was an aspiring writer.

The tears flood to the surface when I think about how far I’ve come, and yet, I know I haven’t done it alone. I’ve found so many new friends; some authors, some illustrators, some graphic designers, and some simply avid readers. I never thought I would find such a humble group of people, who while trying to achieve their goals would attempt to help someone else achieve theirs, yet I did.

I found Master Koda https://www.facebook.com/groups/masterkoda/ on Face Book and that is when the ball started to roll. I found the people there kind and approachable. I could ask anything at all and someone would attempt to guide me. At first, I felt naïve and unsure, but then, after a while, my comfort grew. I found I was able to help others and “Pay it Forward.” I also found that they didn’t view me as another, ‘wanna be,’ instead, they treated me like an equal.

In December, I was feeling ready to self-publish but a chance encounter altered my path. I read Digitus 233 by Kim Emerson and loved it. http://www.amazon.com/Digitus-233-Series-ebook/dp/B00AQJ7NKA I contacted the author, and mentioned how much I loved it. We spoke briefly, and before long, I found out she was a publisher. Her publishing house is called Master Koda Select Publishing. http://www.amazon.com/Digitus-233-Series-ebook/dp/B00AQJ7NKA To make a long story short, I was so taken by her family approach to publishing I had to submit my story to her, even though I was set on self- publishing.

Six weeks later I got the call I’d been longing for. Five months later, here I am! Published!! I simply can’t believe it.

This blog isn’t about self- promoting but rather to inspire. If you can dream it, and have the drive to build it, then it will happen. You have to have faith in yourself, others and the divine power that guides you.

Today is the day. Get your hands on, “The Abduction of Lilly Waters.” http://www.amazon.com/Digitus-233-Series-ebook/dp/B00AQJ7NKA

I close this is saying, thank you, thank you, thank you to everyone.

Mitch Author G. Mitchell Baker 3-2012 (2)

He has several books, but one in particular I wanted to share is The Involvement of Emerson.

Here’s a brief synopsis of it. Jon Emerson, no longer the arrogant legal professional and no longer the sovereign over meaningless relationships, finds himself on the streets of Seattle, eventually experiencing meaningful relationships with the likes of Bug Dog, Chilly, Lutza, Speedy G, Abra, and Dana. They all, in their own way remind, and sometimes teach Jon to remain involved in his Childrens’ lives, and to honor their need for their father, to remain involved.

Take up with Jon on his journey, and learn whether he listens more, and perhaps learns enough to sustain any commitment for re-connecting with his children. Follow Jon to discover whether there emerges from him a sense of faith perhaps necessary for Jon to be the best father possible, under all circumstances, regardless of any challenge. Or, will Jon be left to consider more of what it will take to be, and remain a man involved. Find Jon, as he finds for himself what it takes to be involved in meaningful relationships.

Honorable Mention Wendy and Charles Siefken

Dear Readers,

Today is a very special day. I have a truly talented duo on my blog today. They are a mother and son team;  which is truly inspirational. As you know, I’m all about family so when I learned this about them, I was thrilled. Wendy Siefken was more than humble when I asked her if she would share her most embarrassing moment. Take a look and this moment. 🙂

What is the most embarrassing moment of your life?

The most embarrassing moment of my life would probably be when I was in fifth grade and the teacher, Mrs. Bancroft, had a contest to see who had read the most chapters in an English book. I had read a lot and kept saying, I read this many, I read this many. The teacher tried patiently telling me, “I know Wendy.” But I kept going. She listed off who came in 5th place with reading this many chapters.

“Mrs. Bancroft I read this many chapters!” I said again,

“Yes Wendy, I know” came her reply yet again. She patiently went through each of the winners announcing them one by one until finally it came to the first place winner. I had been so excited about how many I had read I just kept going on and on. She would say the fourth place winner, and I would mention again, how many I had read. She would tell me she knew, again. Mrs. Bancroft would list off the third place winner and I would yet again remind her of how many I had read. I kept seeing my chances get smaller and smaller the closer it got to the first place person. I figured someone else had read way more than anything I could have come close to. I figured surely someone else had topped me.  Come to find out, I had won. Yeah, a bit embarrassing that was! Mrs. Bancroft turned to me and said, “The first place winner is Wendy for reading this many chapters.” There really wasn’t much fun in it for her I think since I had kept going on and on about it.  It just isn’t the same kind of win when you keep harping about it.

I’m a teacher so I can just imagine this happening. Kid’s are always so proud of their accomplishments. Way to go Wendy for reading “this many ,”chapters 🙂

I find these two completely fascinating so I snagged their bios for you to enjoy as well.

Bio Charles Siefken (1992-present) is a recent graduate of high school. This is his first book of many to be published. He currently resides in rural central Iowa where he enjoys reading sci/fi books and playing video games among other things. He currently works at a local auto mechanics shop and will be attending college this fall to get a degree as well. Christopher Paolini was his inspiration to become a writer.

Wow he sounds a lot like my boys 🙂

Wendy Siefken (1966-Present)Currently working full-time from home on writing stories and now a virtual assistant to those in need of an extra pair of hands online. Wendy lives on a farm with her family and enjoys reading, gardening and other activities with her family and friends. This is our first publication with many more to follow. This all started as a school project for her youngest son and business partner, Charles Siefken, which has grown into a desire to be published.

The book is a journey into the fantasy realm of what if’s. Zombies took over the world? What if werewolves were real? What if dragons were really not from earth but from another planet? I hope you enjoy this YA book. This book is ideal for a young reader who you may not want reading a book with a lot of blood and gore. This book doesn’t have that. It has a story without all the graphics of a battle.

Hmmm I might have to add this book to the list of YA books my principal asked me for.

So, if you want to learn a little bit more about these two follow these links…..

Release Date Announced!

Dear Readers,

This has been a whirlwind adventure for me. I began this blog in October, 2012 for the purpose of logging my publication adventure and it isn’t even a year later and my first novel will be launching. I simply can’t believe it.

I want to bring you back to what started this for me. I’ve been living in Arizona for 13 years and I desperately want to move back home to Connecticut so my children can grow up around family. I have been endlessly nagging my husband to move and he’s always had some excuse why we can’t; namely he will lose his retirement. Well, one day he got tired of hearing me “nag” so he said, “I tell you what, if you get published by a publisher then we can move where ever you want.” I know why he chose those terms too. He didn’t think it would ever happen. Well, he had no idea how determined he made me.

I set out on that day and began writing. I probably chose one of the hardest stories I could start with too. I mean, I could’ve started with one I had already written but no, I had to choose a story I knew would be a challenge!

The story I wrote is a psychological thriller called, The Abduction of Lilly Waters. It’s filled with twists and turns and a very dark story line. I had to write it in a way that wouldn’t reveal a huge secret so it had many challenges.

The story came together so well. I couldn’t believe how smoothly the details fell into place. I’m very proud that I pulled it off as a beginner author. In December, I finally felt like the story was ready to be placed into the hands of a publisher. I really thought it wouldn’t get read and if it did then it would end up rejected. I decided I would send it to only one publisher and the fate of the story would be sealed after that. Therefore, I knew I  had to select the right publisher.  My search brought me to Master Koda Select Publishing. It’s small publishing house but the heart of it is massive. Kim Emerson runs a very supportive ship with a great collaborative team effort. It’s a priceless gem in the writing industry.

My dreams all began to come true after about 7 weeks of waiting. Kim called me and informed me that she wanted to publish my book. I was floored! I couldn’t believe it. I got off the very emotional phone call and told my husband the good news. The most beautiful moment was when I told my kids. My oldest son threw his arms wide and pulled me into an embrace. I can still hear his prideful words as he held me, “You did it mom!”

So here I am two months shy of one year after I started this blog and my release date is Aug 23rd 2013. Can you believe it?! I’ve created a Facebook event page so all of you can come and share the experience with me.

Come join me and celebrate the release of my debut novel, The Abduction of Lilly Waters! There will be games, prizes, and tons of fun! 12:00 pm ORANGE COUNTY TIME, 1:00 pm Mountain time, 3:00 pm Eastern time. Just log into your computer and join the party!

Here is a quick synopsis of The Abduction of Lilly Waters:

Beth never anticipated her life would end up like it did. The last beating she received at the hands of her boyfriend threw her over the edge. She had to escape him, so she fled taking her daughter Lilly with her. She didn’t know where she’d go, but she didn’t care. All she could manage to think about was the safety of her unborn child and her daughter Lilly.

The frequent stops the mother and daughter had to make were uneventful until Beth pulled into a Diner in Moore, Oklahoma where her daughter Lilly was taken by unseen hands.

Detective’s Daniel Prescott and Frank Martinez head the investigation trying relentlessly to solve the case before it’s too late. These days, when children are taken it’s a unified frenzy to find them. In this case, every lead turns up empty and every turn they take reveals a clue they couldn’t have anticipated. The detectives aren’t quite sure where to turn or who to trust; even the mother herself is a prime suspect.

The Abduction of Lilly Waters is a fast paced child abduction thriller that will leave you on the edge of your seat in anticipation until the end where you’ll discover the deepest and darkest secret waiting.

I am also excited to present to you the cover my sister Latisha Wood drew for me.  Rebbekah White worked her cover designing magic on it for me as well.

Honorable Mention Greta Burroughs

Dear Readers,

I am blessed to have an amazing author on my blog today. She has six books published today and lives in South Carolina. I find her interesting because she used to be a teacher. It’s fascinating to see a teacher going from teaching to writing like me. My interest in her journey brought me to interviewing her. I’ve put together a great blog to introduce you to this talented woman. Please enjoy!

Is your glass half full or half empty?

Half full, I try to be positive and optimistic in all things.

If you could have a dinner party with five people (living or dead) who would be invited?

Eleanor Roosevelt, Anne McCaffery, Ernest Hemingway, Harper Lee, Anne Morrow Lindbergh.

Why would someone like your book(s)?

Hopefully, folks would like my books because they are fun. The Patchy and Calico stories entertain kids while teaching them valuable lessons. They are funny and even adults get a kick out of the antics of the two main characters. In the Wee People series, there is no sex, violence, profanity – just a fast-paced adventure and some loveable characters.

How old were you when you finished your first book? 49

How long did it take you to write it?

Gerald and the Wee People” was my first book to go from the idea stage to publication. It took a couple or three years to write since I was working full time as a freelance reporter for a local newspaper at the time. I also had a six month period of being legally blind where it took all my effort to complete my newspaper articles and the book was put on the back burner.

What do you do to keep yourself going when you aren’t motivated?

I’m kind of stuck right now – not having the inspiration to work on any of my manuscripts. During this time, I am working on marketing the books I have already written. I just revamped my website and blog and am doing blog posts trying to get myself back into writing mode.

Which comes first the chicken or the egg… I mean the plot or the characters?

When you set your characters do you use character bios/ sketches or do your characters just land on the page?

Since I’m a seat of the pants writer, both the plot and characters develop as the story is being written. I have no notes or outline so everything is more or less a surprise as I write.

Do you have any advice for the editing process?

Go through your manuscript yourself as many times as you need to to correct any spelling/grammar/punctuation/storyline errors you can find. After that, let a fresh set of eyes beta/proofread then get it edited.

If you could do everything over (writing your book, or publishing, etc.) would you change anything?

I first published my book with Outskirts Press. I have no complaints about the company except it took a lot of money to do what I later found out I could have done myself for a whole lot cheaper. I did not know anything about ebooks or Createspace and published it the only way I knew how at that time. If I could go back with the knowledge I have now, I would have done that differently.

Greta Burroughs Wee People Cover (SW, Kindle)

Author’s Bio

Greta Burroughs loves to read. No matter where she is, there is always a book close at hand. Her love of reading began at an early age and blossomed over time to include many different genres, her favorite now being fantasy.

As a preschool and elementary school teacher, Greta tried to instill the joy of reading in the children she worked with. Books were an important part of her classroom and story time was the highlight of the day.

It has been a while since Greta was in a classroom but she had lots of experience in reading to children of various ages and remembers what they enjoyed listening to. She tries to incorporate that knowledge into her work as an author and believes it makes her a better writer of children’s and young adult books.

She now resides in SC with her husband, Robert and three dogs. Greta has six books published at the present time; three children’s books in the Patchwork Dog and Calico Cat series, two MG/YA fantasy entitled Gerald and the Wee People and House on Bo-Kay Lane, and a nonfiction account of her experiences with an autoimmune blood disorder called ITP – Heartaches and Miracles.
